The Rundown: The X-Men and Alpha Flight team up to take down a group of space pirates.

The X-Men are on the defensive when a group of space pirates reveal that they are there to capture Scott and it has everything to do with his wife and her role as the Phoenix. At the same time, Alpha Flight is assembled to protect the country with the alien ship flying through Canadian airspace and there is some noticeable tension between the team and their new leader.
As both teams find themselves working together, they manage a coordinated attack to bring the living ship down. An attack that will take cunning and take advantage of the pirate’s arrogance as another more personal threat looms in the distance. A threat that will go for the very heart of the X-Men.
The Story: MacKay crafts a thrill ride of a story in this issue. Not only did I love all of the action in the issue, but the back story with Alpha Flight was both tragic and inspiring. There is a wonderful energy and momentum to this issue as not only is the action thrilling, but the characters, especially Cyclops, are at the top of their game. I love seeing Scott as the leader he was meant to be and how he utilizes his team and their strengths in the field. I loved seeing the mutants and Alpha Flight working together and the end of the issue is a great cliffhanger that has me curious about what comes next.
The Art: Diaz delivers thrilling art that matches and enhances the thrills of the story. The action in this issue is beautifully done.
